The price of watermelons in Ukraine has set a historical record

25.08.2017

The price of watermelons in Ukraine continue to grow rapidly and at times exceeds the maximum performance for the end of August for the whole history of the country's independence

So, at the moment Ukrainian farmers already offer watermelon high quality at 4-4,5 UAH/kg (0,13-0,15 Euro/kg), prices for substandard products start from 2.5 UAH/kg (0,08 Euro/kg). Thus, since the start of this week these products are on the market of Ukraine rose by 1.6-1.7 times.

It is noted that to date the price of watermelons in the Ukrainian farms is an average of 6.3 times higher than in the same period last year and is a record for the end of August for the whole history of Ukraine's independence. For comparison: the maximum considered price August 2014, but then they did not exceed the 2.3 UAH/kg.

Such a high price level market analysts attribute a fairly significant reduction in the production of watermelons in the country because of the extreme heat in the second half of the summer. At the same time, it must be emphasized that such a sharp rise in price negatively affects the demand. Exporters refuse to purchase at current prices, while the pace of sales in the domestic market also declined. Moreover, consumers are increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of the products.
