Turkey. Port on the Aegean Sea to be built in half a year

01.02.2017

The second stage of Turkey’s Petlim container port is projected to be put into operation in June 2017. “The first stage of Petlim has already been launched, and the second stage will start operating in June 2017. This will enable the port to receive vessels with a tonnage of up to 13,000 containers and save USD 200-250 on every container. This will be the largest port on the Aegean Sea, having double the capacity of the Haydarpaşa port,” Gakhramanov noted.

The first stage of the port construction was completed in December 2016. The port’s exploitation started on December 7, when the first commercial vessel was received. After the first stage, Petlim’s capacity amounts to 800,000 TEU.

Petlim will be the largest port on the Aegean Sea. Its coastal line will be 700 m long and depths will reach 16 m. The port will be capable of receiving container carriers loaded with more than 11,000 TEU.
