Ukraine and Lebanon to step up cooperation in agriculture sector

12.02.2018

Ukraine and Lebanon are keen on increasing the volumes of bilateral trade in agricultural products and establishing effective cooperation mechanisms. The said issues were tackled in the course of the meeting between Maksym Martynyuk, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine with the delegation of the members of the National Assembly of the Lebanon. The meeting was also attended by Ihor Ostash, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Lebanon, and representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

The Lebanese side pledges interest in boosting trade turnover, in particular due to increased exports of grain crops, vegetable oils, flour from Ukraine, and citrus, bananas and wine products from Lebanon. The special emphasis was placed on the fact that Lebanon can be considered as a trade and economic hub, through which it is possible to export products to other countries of the Middle East.

The Ukrainian-Lebanese Business Forum planned to be held in April in Kyiv could become an important stage in bilateral relations between the two countries.

Apart from that, the resumption of the work of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Lebanese Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was discussed, which is an important platform for communication at the governmental level on trade and economic cooperation issues.
