A sowing of winter cereals has started in Ukraine. Warm and dry weather was typical for the first ten days of September. Only in the central and southern regions of Ukraine local rains of different intensity were seen in recent days. Dry and hot weather led to an air and soil drought, which created unfavorable conditions for winter cereals sowing for the 2019 crop, reports UkrAgroConsult.

During the reporting week, some part of southern and central regions locally got a normal precipitation amount. But given the soil drought, the precipitation may not be productive enough to ensure the first sprouts and development of plants at the initial stage.

As a reminder, the most of winter cereals is cultivated in the southern, central and western regions of the country – nearly 87% intended for the 2019 harvest.

It should be noted that during the next few days, no productive precipitation is expected in Ukraine, and the air temperature is still expected to be much higher than normal.

Given the lack of soil moisture and effective precipitation, which was seen in the first half of September, rather unfavorable weather for sowing winter crops has developed this year. It would be more reasonable to carry out the autumn sowing later, after effective rains.
