Ukraine boosted wheat exports to the EU by 45%

Ukrainian exporters supplied 14.2 MMT of wheat to foreign markets during the first nine months of the current season that is 3% less than a year ago (14.6 MMT), reports UkrAgroConsult.

The main export destinations for Ukrainian wheat this season include South-East and South Asia due to a boost in supplies to Indonesia, Bangladesh, Philippines, as well as to South Korea, Thailand and India. The combined share of these destinations in Ukrainian wheat exports expanded to 45% in July-March 2017/18.

The share of African countries grew also owing to stable wheat exports to Egypt and increased shipments to Tunisia, Mauritania, South Africa, Nigeria, Senegal and others.

Apart from the above, Ukrainian exporters considerably stepped up wheat supplies to the market of the European Union in MY 2017/18, UkrAgroConsult notes. The EU share reached 11% this season against 6.5% in MY 2016/17. It is worth noting that current wheat supplies from Ukraine to the EU have already 45% more than exported for the whole of last season.

March wheat shipments were 5% down from the same month last season and amounted to 1 MMT.
