Ukraine. Cold weather slows down winter rapeseed vegetation

Last week of October was moderately warm and cloudy. Average daily air temperature fluctuated within + 2..+9°С, which was 2.7-4.3°С lower than multiyear norm for this period, reports UkrAgroConsult. Maximum temperature reached +16°С in the daytime and minimum temperature lowered to – 3..-6°С (Kharkov region). Rains of various intensity were observed across the country. The largest amount of rains was noted in Vinnitsa region, where during the last 10 days precipitation amount reached 2-month norm and soil remains wet.

During October, 11-21 precipitation amount in Kharkov region reached 1 - 4 mm, or 3 - 30% of the 10-day norm. Locally in the South, South-Western and Central parts of the region precipitation amounted to 7 - 8 mm, or 50 - 80% of the 10-day norm. In the Western regions precipitations totaled 22.8 mm - 120% for the last 10 days of October. Soil moisture stocks remain high.

According to UkrAgroConsult, cool weather may result in slower development of winter rapeseed. Due to lack of warms, late seeded sowings may remain non-developed.
