Ukraine. Condition of winter crops best in five years

10.12.2018

Variable weather with sharp changes in air temperature has been observed since the beginning of December. The average air temperature early in the month was 2 to 90С below zero, but then it rose to +1.9-5.00С after December 5. The highest air temperature on the warmest days was at +1.0-9.10С, while the lowest one was registered at 7-160С below zero on the coldest nights.

Precipitation in the form of rain, sleet and snow of various intensities occurred almost all over the country this past week. It somewhat improved moisture content in the topsoil, reports UkrAgroConsult.

As of November 30, most of the country was covered with 1 to 10 cm of snow. Its height reached 15-19 cm in single areas in Ivano-Frankivsk region. No snow was seen in the southern regions. However, the snow-covered area expanded from November 30 due to an advancing active cyclone. In addition, snow height gained 2-20 cm.

Due to the temperature increase after December 5, snow has melted in most regions, though it still locally remains in some northern and eastern areas, where its height ranges from 1 to 10 cm.

The meteorological conditions in late November and early December were favorable for winter grains. Condition of winter crops is rated as generally good and fair.
