Ukraine. Cool autumn weather with gradually decreasing average daily air temperatures dominated most of the country after October 20.


As of October 21-23, the topsoil layer (0-20 cm) in winter crop fields across most of Ukraine contained insufficient (11-20 mm) and poor (1-10 mm) amounts of productive moisture. In many parts of Donetsk region and some areas in Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odesa regions the topsoil was almost dry or dry.

Sufficient and optimal topsoil moisture (at least 21-30 mm of productive moisture) was available in Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk regions, many parts of Zakarpattya, Lviv, Khmelnytsky, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Poltava regions, and single areas in Sumy, Volyn, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Luhansk regions.
Plants of winter wheat, rye and triticale are at the beginning of the second stage of organogenesis (tillering). Their crops are in good condition.
