Ukraine. Corn crop condition

Hot weather with extremely uneven precipitation dominated the country on August 8-11. Average daily air temperatures were 1-6°С above normal.

Dry weather with ineffective downpours persisting in many parts of the country caused an expansion of drought-stricken areas. This had an adverse impact on growth of late crops, but no steady deterioration of their condition was observed, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Agrobiological surveys of corn crops conducted by scientists of the Grain Farming Institute indicated that the generative period of development continues in corn of all the ripening biotypes and sowing dates. Above-normal temperatures and dryness cause faster grain ripening in corn hybrids. Plants of early-ripening biotypes are at early waxy ripeness and milky ripeness of grain.

In general, corn crops after the best predecessors or in areas where precipitation has occurred are in fair condition. At the same time, corn crops after worse predecessors and in areas where no rain has long been observed are in nearly poor.
