Ukraine. Corn planting is half-complete


As of May 3, planting of spring cereals and pulses was completed on an area of 4722 Th ha (65% of the plan). This is 15% more than planted at the same time last year (5580 Th ha), reports UkrAgroConsult.

In particular, spring barley was sown on 1540 Th ha (94%) against 1793 Th ha in 2016, spring wheat on 165 Th ha (93%) against 164 Th ha in 2016, oats on 195 Th ha (94%) against 211 Th ha a year ago. Peas were seeded on 376 Th ha (114%) that is up 67% year-on-year (225 Th ha as of May 3, 2016).

Corn had been planted on 53% of its projected area by the above-mentioned date. Farmers seeded this crop on 2388 Th ha against 3078 Th ha at the same time last year (68% of the plan).
