Ukraine. Crop development conditions were fair despite frost occurrences


Despite short frost occurrences on May 10-11, the weather conditions were generally fair for crop growth and development between May 11-20, reports UkrAgroConsult.

According to the Irrigated Farming Institute (Kherson region), all winter wheat crops are at the stages from flag leaf to heading. Winter crops are in good condition where sown within the best timeframe after black and seeded fallow and under irrigation. The state of winter wheat after nonfallow predecessors varies from fair to poor.

Winter barley is in good and fair condition, it has been lost on 1.6 Th ha (2.2%). Winter rape is in good and fair condition, 4.3% of its plantings have been lost to date. Most of winter rape crops are at the full blooming and pod formation stages. Spring barley plants are at the stem-extension – flag leaf stages. Their condition is predominantly good and fair. The stages of corn plantings currently range from emergence to 5-7 leaves (earlier sowing terms).
