Ukraine. Decreased rapeseed crushing entailed a drop in rape oil exports

Ukraine exported 21 KMT of rape oil in August 2017 against 1.8 KMT in July 2017 and 24.3 KMT in August 2016. A total 22.8 KMT was supplied to foreign markets in the 2017/18 season (July-August) that is down 8% from the same time last year (24.3 KMT). These rape oil exports hit a three-year low. In the first months of the new marketing year Ukrainian crushers reduce processing of rapeseed in favor of its exports. Consequently, export shipments of rape oil have dropped, reports UkrAgroConsult.

The range of export destinations for Ukrainian rape oil did not change considerably in the first two months of the 2017/18 season. As before, the bulk of its exports were shipped to European countries, but China’s market share expanded to 13% against 2% in MY 2016/17: China purchased 3.1 KMT of Ukrainian rape oil against 0.5 KMT a year ago. Exports to the EU and their share, on the contrary, fell from 98% to 87%.
