Ukraine. Emerged rape plants are in good and fair condition

Cool weather still persisted on October 1-12, night frost events locally occurred. Rain of various intensities fell in most regions of the country. Even long rains were observed in many parts of the south-western, central and northern regions, as well as downpours and strong winds. They added to topsoil moisture content in winter crops, which had substantially decreased in some areas in the latter half of September because of predominantly dry weather.

The average air temperature appeared to be 2-3°С below normal, being close to normal in the east and in Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions (7.5-12.5°С). The highest air temperature reached 15-20°С, even 21-25°С in the south, east and Dnipropetrovsk region. On the coldest nights air temperatures dropped to a minimum of 1-5°С below zero, even to -7-9°С in Luhansk region. Frost events occurred on the ground surface, at a 2-cm height and in the air all over the country.

Plants of winter rape continue the formation of leaf rosettes, but its sowing is still under way in the south. Sparse plantings were occasionally observed in some areas in the central regions because of dryness. Emerged plants are in good and fair condition, reports UkrAgroConsult.
