Ukraine. Farmers pleased with sunseed and soybean yields

OILCROPS. According to the Ag Ministry of Ukraine, sunseed had been harvested from 442.5 Th ha by September 3, i.e. from 7% of its projected area of 6058.2 Th ha. The harvest pace is double the progress of last year. The crop amounted to 861.1 KMT with an average yield of 1.95 MT/ha (up 27.5% from 2017). By the same date a year ago, farmers harvested 337 KMT of sunseed from 220 Th ha with an average yield of 1.53 MT/ha.

Soybeans had been harvested from 43.2 Th ha by the reporting date (3% of their projected area of 1709.4 Th ha). The harvest is almost 49% the progress of last year. Farmers combined 113.4 KMT of soybeans with an average yield of 2.63 MT/ha (+48.6% from 2017). A year ago, 50 KMT was harvested from 29 Th ha with an average yield of 1.77 MT/ha.

Ukraine has finished rapeseed harvesting. According to current information, 2680 KMT had been harvested by August 31, or 24.8% more than by the same date last year (2147 KMT). This includes 2562.7 KMT of winter rapeseed and 117.3 KMT of spring rapeseed. The average yield is 5.4% lower than last year: 2.61 MT/ha against 2.76 MT/ha, respectively.

CORN. As of September 3, 2018, the corn harvest was already in progress in all of Ukraine’s climatic zones. This work had begun in five regions of the Steppe region (Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Luhansk and Mykolaiv) and seven regions of the Forest-Steppe zone (Vinnytsia, Kyiv, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy and Chernivtsi regions). In the Forest zone, it is only underway in Zhytomyr region.

Although this year’s corn harvest started almost a week later than in 2017, its progress is 83% ahead of last year. Moreover, the initial yield values are now up 55% from September 04, 2017, reports UkrAgroConsult.
