Ukraine. Feed wheat exports ahead of last year

According to preliminary information of market participants, Ukraine exported 5.17 MMT of wheat in the 2017/18 season by September 23 against 5.64 MMT at the same time last marketing year, reports UkrAgroConsult.

At the same time, noteworthy is that feed wheat exports are higher than last year. Feed wheat accounted for some 69% of the wheat exported from Ukraine this season. Feed wheat’s share equaled 62% at the same time last year.

The 2017/18 season witnesses strengthening demand for Ukrainian feed wheat from countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, Egypt, the European Union and India. This activity at the start of the season gave substantial support to feed wheat prices in Ukraine despite mounting supply of this commodity in the country. In September, feed wheat prices in Ukraine have already gained $14-15/MT FOB in the export market and UAH 450/MT СРТ in the domestic one.

Also, it should be pointed out that, despite some lag behind last year’s record, Ukrainian wheat exports stay at maximum levels for the country. UkrAgroConsult estimates that Ukraine may supply roughly 16.5 MMT of wheat to foreign markets in the 2017/18 season.
