Ukraine. Growth and development processes slowed down in winter wheat fields

Last week rains of various intensity were seen in the major part of the country, which distributed unevenly throughout the territory, informs UkrAgroConsult. In Odessa and Dnepropetrovsk regions precipitation amounts reached the dangerous values. Along with this in the large territories of Zhitomir, Sumy and Kharkov regions rains were light and soil deficit in upper layers was still observed there. Starting from October, 13 average air temperatures lowered below +10 °С limit all over the country, which slowed down vegetation processes on the sowings of winter wheat.

Gradual lowering of air temperatures in the place of seeds` germination delays their growth and emergence. Thus, according to UkrAgroConsult, the possibility for winter crops to enter winter in the stage of tillering is rather low, with minor exclusions for some North-Eastern parts. It should be noted that in the last 8 years first half of November was quite warm. That is why plants entered winter at the stage of «pricker» - 3 leaves, wintered successfully and formed a good crop.
