Ukraine increased wheat exports by 1 MMT

According to official information, Ukraine exported 1409.3 KMT of wheat in December 2016, somewhat less than in December 2015 (1592.7 KMT).

However, Ukrainian exporters managed to substantially build up wheat supplies to foreign markets in H1 2016/17. 11.5 MMT of wheat was exported from Ukraine in the first six months of the current marketing year, up 9.3% from the same time in MY 2015/16 (10.5 MMT), reports UkrAgroConsult.

India remains the top buyer of Ukrainian wheat this season: it purchased roughly 1.8 MMT in the above period. Among major importers of wheat from Ukraine, South Korea expands purchases this season. The country bought 1060 KMT of Ukrainian wheat in the past part of MY 2016/17, or already 4.6% more than imported for the entire season 2015/16 (1013 KMT). In view of South Korea’s growing need for wheat imports this season, we expect further increase in Ukrainian wheat shipments to this market.

Exports to the market of Morocco keep expanding, too. In the period under review, Ukrainian exporters supplied 15% more than for the entire last season.

Ukrainian wheat deliveries to the world’s top wheat importer – Egypt – have already shrunk this season because of Egypt’s growing purchases from Russia. Ukraine exported 18% less wheat to Egypt in the six months of 2016/17 than at the same time last season.
