Ukraine increasing its presence in the European food market


Ukrainian companies exported $4.7 Bl worth of agriculturasl products to the European Union market in the first ten months of the current year, or 41% more than in January-October 2016, the Ag Ministry reports.

Apart from the traditional commodities making up Ukrainian exports, noteworthy are organic foods and honey. This year’s exports of the latter product are expected at 60 KMT, or twice as much as in 2016.

Overall, Ukraine boosted agricultural and food exports by almost 23% year-on-year in January-October 2017, to $14.7 Bl, while imports totaled $3.6 Bl. The key export products at the time included sunoil, corn, wheat, rapeseed, soybeans, meat, and poultry by-products, reports UkrAgroConsult.

As a reminder, Ukrainian producers supplied $4.2 Bl worth of agricultural products to the EU market in 2016, or 1.6% more than in 2015. So, the EU market absorbed 27.5% of total agricultural exports in 2016. At the same time, the share of Asian countries equaled 45.9% ($7 Bl), Africa imported 15.7% ($2.4 Bl), the CIS 7.7% ($1.2 Bl) and the US share was 0.3% ($44.9 Ml).
