Ukraine intends to limit the import of fertilizers from Russia

The interdepartmental Commission on international trade (mkmt) of Ukraine adopted the decision on introduction of antidumping import duties on Russian fertilizers. About it reports a press-service of the Ministry of economic development and trade of Ukraine.

"The main conclusions of the Ministry of economic development on the results of anti-dumping investigation concerning imports to Ukraine of certain types of nitrogen fertilizers originating from the Russian Federation indicate the existence of dumping," – said in a press release.

"Given the fact that the Russian Federation is the main supplier of fertilizers to Ukraine (80-90% of the total), import of fertilizers at dumping prices puts Ukrainian farmers in a dangerous dependence on their supplies in the future. Unexpected termination of deliveries of Russian fertilizer unilaterally could become another instrument of Russian aggression against Ukraine in the trade area," – noted in the Ministry of economic development of Ukraine.

At the same time, members of the Ukrainian Commission stated that the main consumers of Russian fertilizer are the farmers and must take into consideration their position with the introduction of anti-dumping measures.

In this regard, the Verkhovna Rada in the near future will be directed on consideration of deputies the draft law on measures to diversify the supply of fertilizers by reducing import duty rates on the most popular types of fertilizers (ammonium nitrate, urea, UAN).

"Prior to the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the draft law proposed to temporarily postpone the introduction of anti-dumping measures on imports of fertilizers from the Russian Federation, with the aim of avoiding possible negative consequences for the agricultural complex associated with their action. In the near future to mkmt will be sent to the appeal of the Ministry of agriculture regarding the suspension of the measures taken for consideration prior to the entry of the decision into force," – stated in the message
