Ukraine may retain its record export potential next season


Last week the Agrarian Policy Ministry of Ukraine updated its forecast for spring planted areas. The changes concerned all the staple cereals: plantings of spring wheat and barley were reduced in favor of corn.

The forecast for spring wheat plantings was altered to the least degree, while the estimates for spring barley and corn sown areas in Ukraine were changed much more. 

In this connection, UkrAgroConsult has revised its estimate for Ukrainian grain crops. Total grain crop may decrease by 3-5% compared to last year. However, In view of shrinking domestic use and mounting carryovers, Ukraine’s grain export potential in the new season may approximate 39‑40 MMT that would be the second largest volume after the current marketing year.
