Ukraine. New Silk Road - the only way to deliver Ukrainian goods to Central Asian countries in terms of transit restrictions

In view of additional restrictions introduction on Ukrainian commodities transit along the territory of Russian Federation, PJSC "Ukrzaliznytsya" suggests using the only available alternative route - so-called New Silk Route to supply goods to Central Asian countries.

On its website PJSC "Ukrzaliznytsya" notes that in the current circumstances, the shortest way to deliver Ukrainian goods to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan is the route, which runs through the territories of Ukraine, Georgia and Azerbaijan (see a map below).

As a reminder, on January 15 the test container train on the route Ukraine-Georgia-Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan-China (through the Caspian and the Black Sea) departed from Ilichevsk. Trans-Caspian international transport route runs through China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey and then - to Europe. In mid-May 2016 PJSC “Ukrzaliznytsya” signed a protocol on Ukraine’s joining the Trans-Caspian international transport route.

Besides, it was agreed to reduce the complex rate for 40-foot container transportation in section Izov (border crossing point with Poland) to the border with China (Dostyk) from USD 5559 to USD 3980.
