Ukraine. Pea and corn production margins to plummet in 2017


Crop production margin is expected at 25.3% in 2017, or down 43% year-on-year, said Yuriy Lupenko, an academician of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

According to expert calculations, the most profitable cereals for growers will be oats and buckwheat.

Overall, grain production margin will decrease almost by half against last year, to 20.8%, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Oat production margin in 2017 is expected at 51.0% against 34.4% last year and 21.5% in 2015. Buckwheat margin will keep falling: from 100% in 2015 and 87.5% in 2016 to 42.9% this year. Rice margin will increase 1.2 times against last year, to 40.7%, and barley margin will be up almost 1.6 times at 39.5% against last year’s 25.4%.

According to scientists, profitability of wheat and rye growing will continue rising and reach 34.2% against 31.7% in 2016 and 30.8% against 24.6%, respectively.

The greatest slump will be seen in profitability of pea production, which reached a record 76.8% last year. According to forecasts, it will fall to 10.3% in 2017. Production margin of corn for grain will be down 5.5 times at 8.3% against 45.7% in 2016.
