Ukraine. Planting of early spring cereals and pulses already 17% complete


As of March 21, early spring grains were seeded on an area of 408 Th ha (17% of their intended area of 2402 Th ha). This includes 280 Th ha of barley (16% of the plan), 106 Th ha of peas (38%), 13 Th ha of oats (6%) and 10 Th ha of wheat (5%), reports UkrAgroConsult.

Nineteen regions of Ukraine have already started spring sowing. The largest portions of spring crops have been seeded in Mykolaiv region – 66.4 Th ha (62% of the intended area), Odesa region – 79.4 Th ha (53%), Zaporizhia region – 93.8 Th ha (53%) and Kherson region – 62 Th ha (49%).

It should be noted that by the same date last year early spring cereals and pulses were sown on 671 Th ha, but the 2016 planting started as early as after February 20, not on March 1-10.
