Ukraine. Planting of winter grains is roughly 32% complete

GRAINS. In Ukraine, late grains had been harvested from 73% of their projected area by September 24, 2018. The harvest of grain corn continues at a rapid pace: its harvested area has doubled over the week, from 351 Th ha as of September 17, 2018 to 731 Th ha as of the reporting date, reports UkrAgroConsult.

In addition, as of September 24, planting of winter grains was already in progress all over the country, except for Zakarpattya region. Owing to favorable weather, it is now just 8.6% behind last year, though this gap was 29.8% a week ago.

OILCROPS. According to the Ag Ministry of Ukraine, sunseed had been harvested from 3248.6 Th ha by September 24, i.e. from 54% of its projected area of 6058.2 Th ha. The crop amounted to 6965.6 KMT with an average yield of 2.14 MT/ha (up 16.3% from 2017). By the same date a year ago, farmers harvested 5344 KMT of sunseed from 2898 Th ha with an average yield of 1.84 MT/ha, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Soybeans had been harvested from 568.7 Th ha by the reporting date (33% of their projected area of 1709.4 Th ha). Their harvest is 6.6% behind last year. Farmers combined 1393.7 KMT of soybeans with an average yield of 2.45 MT/ha (+41.6% from 2017). A year ago, 1051 KMT was harvested from 609 Th ha with an average yield of 1.73 MT/ha.

Apart from the above, Ukrainian farmers continue sowing winter rape for the 2019 harvest. 929.1 Th ha had been sown to it by the reporting date. This is 105 of the projected 888 Th ha and 18.6% more than last year (783 Th ha).
