Ukraine. Slow growth seen in winter crops

02.01.2018
Slow growth processes are now observed in plants of winter crops. Therefore, over the recent days, winter crops have got in a rather difficult situation from the viewpoint of their winter hardiness. Daytime temperature growth to 7.0-12.00C revives physiological processes in plants, delays or even fully prevents their usual dormancy. In the absence of snow cover, which lasted for just 4-5 days, a sharp temperature drop may cause damage to crops, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Also, it needs to be pointed out that the timespan of October - December included just 20 sunny days – an abnormal 25% of the total number of days. This year’s precipitation rates totaled 800-1200 mm by December 26 that is close to the long-term average.

The state of winter crops is now assessed as fair.
