Ukraine. Snow cover will save grain crops from the frosts

Once air temperatures increased after November 5, plants of winter cereals resumed and intensified their growth processes, reports UkrAgroConsult. Winter wheat is at tillering stage where seeded in early dates (September 10-20) both after weedfree fallow and nonfallow predecessors. It has 2.0-2.5 and 1.0-1.5 tillers per plant, respectively, and plant height of 18- 22 and 16-19 cm.

The temperature rise from November 5-6 had a positive impact on late-sown winter wheat (seeded after October 10). In general, winter cereals are now in good and fair condition.

Precipitation in the form of snow was seen across most of the country from November 11-13. Up to 40 cm of snow covered some parts of Ukraine. In regions featuring the severest frost (the north-east of the country), winter crops have got reliable snow cover protecting them against low temperatures.

According to UkrAgroConsult, along with adequate soil moisture content, these weather conditions are favorable for crops.
