Ukraine. Spring planting has not yet started in the northern regions

A significant temperature increase – to 9.40С above normal – was registered almost all over Ukraine on April 8-10. Precipitation in the form of rain occurred almost everywhere throughout last week. On April 1-10, its rates totaled 44-80% of normal (4-11 mm) in most regions.

On April 8-10, productive soil moisture supply available to winter wheat after different predecessors was as follows: optimal (21-40 mm) and excessive (over 40 mm) in the topsoil; optimal (121-160 mm and more) in the one-meter layer. At the same time, the amount of agronomically valuable moisture in the 0-50-cm soil layer is somewhat below the multi-year average. The primary reason is intensive evaporation due to high air temperatures and strong south-eastern winds.

In the southern and western regions of the country, planting of cereals and pulses has been in progress for a week now. This work has already started in the central regions, but farmers in the north are still waiting for the right time, reports UkrAgroConsult. Seed germination is observed in previously sown fields.
