Ukraine. Sunflower and soya plants in fair conditions

02.10.2017

The average air temperature was 2-5°С above normal in the western and northern regions and 5.5-8.0°С above normal in the rest of Ukraine, ranging from 11-14°С in the north to 22-25°С in the south. However, after September 26, air temperatures fell substantially and settled at 15-17°С. Air temperatures peaked at 26-31°С in the west, south, Poltava and Vinnytsia regions and 22-25°С in the rest of Ukraine. The total of effective degree-days above 5°С accumulated between September 1-20 was 35-85°С higher than the long-term average.

Precipitation rates averaged 120 to 160% of normal (21-30 mm) in Volyn, Rivne, Lviv, Zakarpattya and Chernihiv regions and 64-110% of normal (9-24 mm) in Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytsky, Zhytomyr and Kyiv regions. In the rest of the country, precipitation amounted to at most 1- 5 mm, or it was dry at all.

Sunflower plants are at the ripening stage and have come to full maturity in most fields. Soya is at ripening. The crops are in fair condition, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Winter rape sown within the best time frame is at the stage of true leaves. It has already emerged in some early-sown areas, but density of its seedlings is diverse, depending on topsoil moisture content.
