Ukraine. Sunflower crops in good and fair condition

It was hot and dry on July 21-25, but then air temperatures somewhat decreased and rainfalls of various intensities occurred all over the country. Air temperatures in most of Ukraine averaged 20-230С, i.e. appeared 1-50С above normal. They peaked at 30-320С in the daytime, even at 370С in the south. In cold nights, they bottomed out at 9.0-140С in the north and 15-250С in the south. The ground surface heated to 55-620С on warm days. Minor precipitation was observed throughout the ten days, but it was unevenly distributed over the country. So, Kherson and Vinnytsia regions remained dry at all: the topsoil contained zero moisture there as of July 27. Downpours occurred in Dnipropetrovsk region, but their rates were insignificant at a mere 2-5 mm. Sumy region got just 3.7 mm of precipitation. It rained every day in Lviv region, but with low precipitation rates (a total 11.1 mm, or 30% of normal for July 21-31).

Soya plants are at the stage of bean formation and filling. They now have large, poorly aired vegetative mass.

Large-scale blooming and head formation are reported in sunflower crops, even ripening in some of southern fields. The head diameter is 7-25 cm. The plant height averages 140 to 200 cm, depending on the planting time. Crop condition is good and fair.
