Ukraine. Sunseed exports at the lowest level since MY 2005/06

Ukraine exported 6.3 KMT of sunseed in December 2017 that is down 61.5% from November 2017 and four and a half times less than in December 2016. Export statistics for the current 2017/18 season (September-December) shrank considerably from the previous marketing year, to 16.3 KMT against 134.2 KMT a year ago, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Due to a sunseed crop shortfall and keen competition from crushers in the domestic market, Ukrainian sunseed exports dropped to the lowest level since MY 2005/06.

As a reminder, the number of sunseed importing countries continues falling in the current 2017/18 season, along with a substantial decrease in shipments to traditional buyers. As before, the bulk of Ukrainian sunseed exports (83%) go to European countries, while Turkey absorbs 6% of their total, Libya imports 4% and Georgia accounts for 2%.
