Ukraine. Survival of winter cereals under no threat


Ukraine was dominated by changeable weather in the first half of January. Air temperatures swung from above-zero values to 4-140C below normal. At the same time, snow cover was deep enough for winter crops to survive, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Winter wheat plants are now in the second stage of organogenesis, depending on the variety and predecessor. The growing point is 0.24-0.26 mm long, depending on the variety. The tillering coefficient equals 1.1-1.2. The growing point is sound, opalescent, rated at 5 points. No threat is currently posed to the survival of winter cereals.

According to the Ag Ministry’s report as of January 12, winter crops for grain have emerged on an area of 6823.1 Th ha out of the planted 7172.6 Th ha (95.1%).
