Ukraine. Weather playing into hands of corn


This year’s long winter in Ukraine may cause farmers to adjust the pattern of spring-seeded areas.

The current weather conditions are detrimental for sowing early spring crops. As of March 23, almost the entire country was still covered with 1 to 25 cm of snow. It is already gone just in some southern areas. Meteorologists predict a steadier temperature increase in Ukraine towards the end of March.

So, the dates of planting early spring crops in Ukraine are going to get shifted, if not narrowed, reports UkrAgroConsult. In case of a sharp temperature rise, farmers may found themselves short of time to sow early spring cereals and pulses in full. Planting in Ukraine is already delayed for a couple weeks compared to last year.
