Ukraine. Winter crops in a better condition than last year

According to expert estimates, Ukrainian winter crops are generally in a better state than in November 2016, with topsoil moisture content higher than a year ago, reports UkrAgroConsult. Even underdeveloped crops at the emergence stage featured simultaneous growth. The development of winter crops somewhat advanced by November 15 against October 21-31: full tillering and the formation of nodal roots were seen almost in half the fields. The rest of their plantings were at the stages of emergence and the first leaves.

The cold spell after November 10 slowed down growth, physiological and biochemical processes in plants. Their slow pace facilitated the preparation of plants for winter, in particular passing the first stage of plant hardening. The air temperature decrease to below-zero values indicates the start of the second hardening stage.
