Ukraine. Winter grain crops are good and fair in the most of planted areas


The weather on November 18-23 was comparatively cold, with precipitation of various intensities and rates. Snow cover developed and persisted, but it melted with rain in the south.

The average daily air temperature throughout the reporting week turned out to be close to normal in the western regions, being 1-40С below normal in the rest of Ukraine. On the coldest nights, air temperature bottomed out at 3-90С below zero, even at -8-120С in the east and north.

In general, no adverse agrometeorological events able to affect winter grains occurred this past week. Plant condition is rated good and fair in most of the country’s planted areas, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Precipitation in the form of rain, sleet and snow occurred almost all over the country.

Most of the country was covered with 1 to 10 cm of snow as of November 20. Its height reached 11-18 cm in single parts of Kirovohrad, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia and Chernivtsi regions, even 20 cm in Ivano-Frankivsk region. No snow was seen in the fields in Zaporizhia, Kherson, Sumy, Zhytomyr, Rivne regions and in most of Luhansk, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Odesa and Zakarpattya regions.

Towards November 20, the soil freeze depth ranged from 1 to 15 cm, up to 16-22 cm in Sumy region and locally in Luhansk, Poltava and Kyiv regions. The soil in the southern half of the country was thawed.

Winter rape condition ranges from good to fair.
