Ukraine. Winter rape is in good and fair condition

The last ten days of May featured warm weather with brief precipitation events, in the form of showers in some regions. The average daily air temperature was at 14.4-19.20С, or 0.7-5.10С above normal.

Rains that occurred over the recent days in South Ukraine were actually ineffective (0.2-2.0 mm), therefore soil moisture reserves are rapidly exhausting there.

Winter rape is in good and fair condition. 4.3% of late-sown rape crops failed to survive the winter in Kherson region. Most of rape plantings are at the stage of pod formation. Depressed plants are reported due to scarce soil moisture content.

Planting of late crops is drawing to a close. Farmers apply soil herbicides and carry out inter-row tillage of early-sown crops.

The quite warm weather in the last ten days of May somewhat accelerated growth and development of winter and spring crops, but it did not fully offset a 6-7-day delay in their development caused by May 16-22 heat shortages.
