Ukraine. Winter rape mostly in good and fair condition

Mild frost and minor precipitation dominated the country on February 11-16.

Snow cover remained in most of Ukraine except for its southern regions. Its average height varies from 1 to 25 cm. The lowest soil temperature registered at the tillering node depth varies from 0°С to -2-4°С that is far above the critical limits even for underdeveloped plants.

At the same time, the current situation in the fields – high snow cover, thawed soil – may bring about an adverse phenomenon such as rotting-out, which occurs in crops having stayed snow-covered for a long time (20-30 days).

Overall supply of productive soil moisture is rated fair.

According to the Ag Ministry’s data as of February 15, winter rape emerged on 98.6% out of the planted 1009.8 Th ha, including 56.2% (559.6 Th ha) in good condition, reports UkrAgroConsult.
