Ukraine. Winter rapeseed has stood April’s harsh weather

It was cool after April 20 as for this time of season. Rain and sleet frequently occurred, even snowfalls in the eastern, central and partially southern regions. The average daily air temperature over the past week was 3-80C, or 1.5-4.00С below normal for the time. Maximum air temperatures peaked at 7.0-20.80С on the warmest days (April 26) and minimum ones bottomed out at 0.1-4.00С below zero in the coldest nights (April 21).

Extreme frost events with nighttime air temperatures down at 1-40C for 3-5 days were registered in May 1999, 2000 and April 2009, 2015. However, they caused no significant damage to winter crops.

This spring’s insignificant temperature decline of short duration has not damaged rapeseed plants. Correspondingly, it is not expected to affect their productivity, UkrAgroConsult noted.
