Ukraine. Winter rapeseed plantings mostly in good and fair condition


Warm, windy, almost rain-free weather dominated the country after April 20. The average daily air temperature varied within +9.0-16.80С, or 2.2-90С above normal. Air temperatures peaked at 25-270С on the warmest days and bottomed out at 0-60С (3-120С in the south) on the coldest nights. At night, the ground surface cooled down to 0-80С below zero in the southern, eastern, northeastern, northern regions and to 1-40С above zero in the rest of the country.

On April 11-20, precipitation of various intensities occurred in the eastern, northeastern regions as well as in Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk ones. Over the ten days, its rates totaled at most 6-20% of normal (1-5 mm) in the majority of Ukraine’s regions and 36-50% of normal (5-6 mm) in Luhansk, Chernihiv, Poltava and Zaporizhia regions.

At the time, precipitation in Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk regions amounted to 54-69% of normal (7-9 mm). Odesa, Cherkasy, Zakarpattya regions, most parts of Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kirovohrad regions and single areas in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Vinnytsia, Lviv and Rivne regions received no precipitation at all.

The average daily air temperature climbed over 100С on April 1-10 (on April 11-22 in the northeasternmost areas), or 10-25 days ahead of the long-term average.

Winter rape plantings are at the stages of stem growth, emergence of inflorescence, and even at the beginning of bloom in some southern areas. Their condition is mostly good and fair, being poor in some northern areas, UkrAgroConsult’s analysts note.
