Ukraine's buckwheat production increased by almost 40% in 2016


In 2016, Ukraine's agriculture showed a 6.1% growth, mainly in the area of crop production.

Ukrainian State Statistics Service Chairman Ihor Verner has stated this at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“There is sustainable positive dynamics in agriculture. After a 4.8% decline in production in 2015, agricultural production increased to 6.1% in 2016,” Verner said.

In particular, a growth in agricultural production was caused by the record-breaking yields of wheat, sunflower and sugar beets.

“In contrast to 2015, buckwheat production increased by 37.7%,” Verner noted.

Meanwhile, according to the data from the Ukrainian State Statistics Service, crop production output decreased by 2.6%. Animal population in regions reduced by 1-5%.
