Ukrainian farmers already planted sunflower on 3.5 Ml ha

Ukrainian growers still fail to catch up with last year’s oilseed planting pace. The weather-caused lag persists so far. At the same time, a boost is observed in planting operations in late April and early May, reports UkrAgroConsult.

According to the Ag Ministry of Ukraine, sunflower was sown on an area of 3487 Th ha as of May 4 – this is 65% of the projected 5390.3 Th ha (official data). The lag behind last year exceeds 3%: 3566 Th ha of sunflower was sown as of this same date in 2016.

As of May 4, soya was planted on an area of 636.0 Th ha that is 33% of its forecast area (the official forecast is 1948.4 Th ha). The lag behind last year has reduced to 28% over the recent days. So, soya plantings already totaled 882 Th ha on this same date in 2016.
