Ukrainian rapeseed crushers may set a new record

The 2016/17 season will be remembered for a sharp fall in Ukraine’s rapeseed crop to 1.2 MMT (567 KMT or 32% less than last year).

The decline in rapeseed production had an impact on its crushing volumes. Most oil extraction plants were not prepared to compete with exporters for available volumes of the commodity. So, these crushers yielded them to traders. Ukraine supplied 1026 KMT of rapeseed to foreign markets in 2016/17 season, maintaining a downward trend in this commodity’s exports for a third consecutive season.

Although rapeseed harvesting has just started in Ukraine, it can be said with certainty already now that we are going to see a good rapeseed crop. This means the 2017/18 season promises to be quite busy, both from the viewpoint of exports and domestic processing, UkrAgroConsult notes.
