Ukrainian soybean market unlikely to hit new highs in 2017/18 season

In the current 2016/17 season, the soybean sector developments are exposed to a harvested bumper crop of 4338 KMT. It is worth reminding once again that the current marketing year features a decrease in domestic crushing of soybeans in favor of their exports – UkrAgroConsult has already written about this before. Will this trend keep on in the new 2017/18 season?

A lot will depend on the size of the soybean crop Ukrainian farmers will harvest this year. Taking into account that planted acreage of soya remained at last year’s level of 1.9 Ml ha and its plants were exposed to extremely high temperatures, squalls, hail and frost events in various regions throughout the growing season, no new records in the gross soybean crop are to be expected this year.

According to UkrAgroConsult’s estimates, the 2017/18 volume of crushed soybeans will fall, and the crushing share in the gross soybean crop will drop to 22%. Soybean shipments to foreign markets are expected to shrink also because of worse starting conditions.
