US grain rail shipments edge slightly higher to start year: AAR

US rail transportation of grain products in the week ended January 7 totaled 21,476 cars, up 0.9% from the corresponding week a year ago, the Association of American Railroads said Wednesday.

Rail transportation of chemical products fell 11.5% year on year to 28,580 cars. AAR designates fuel-grade ethanol as a chemical product, the group said in its weekly report.
