US soybean growers eye opportunity in aqua feeds

A delegation of soybean growers from the US state of Nebraska recently attended an aquaculture show in Mexico with the aim of increasing the amount of soy in aqua feeds, US television station NTV reported.

The delegation from the Nebraska Soybean Board attended January's Aquaculture Education Opportunity in Campeche, Mexico, where they saw growing demand for soybean meals.

Eugene Goering, a board member, said the event allows soybean growers to better understand the industry.

“We get to learn what their needs are, and that helps us decide what projects to fund and what direction we need to be focusing our research on. The soybean checkoff dollars are investing into different research projects. Our own researchers have done a lot specifically with aquaculture feeds,” Goering said.
