Vietnam appears on the corn market of Romania for the first time


In October 2016 Romania exported 683 KMT of corn, which was 54% higher than over the same month last year. Key buyers of the month were Egypt (139.4 KMT), Spain (139.4 KMT), Netherlands (97.4 KMT), Ireland (53.6 KMT), Iran (50.66 KMT), Italy (39.2 KMT), Vietnam (37 KMT) and Syria (33.5 KMT), reports UkrAgroConsult.

During September-October 2016/17 Romanian traders shipped 1031 KMT of corn, which exceeded the volumes over the same period last season by 25.5%, despite the lower corn crop. Moreover, the share of shipments to non-EU countries increased to 45% against 22% in the reporting period last season.

Thus, Egypt became the key importer of Romanian corn over September-October 2016/17, increasing purchases to 211 KMT (27.4 KMT over the reporting period last season). Also higher volumes were shipped to Italy, Ireland, Syria. Iran bought 50.7 KMT (no purchases last season) and in October 2016 Vietnam appeared on the Romanian corn market for the first time (37 KMT).
