Vietnam pig prices appreciate

Pigmeat prices in Vietnam have doubled compared to last year, and continue to appreciate. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) said that this is the result of herd reduction in the past year and market supply and demand have balanced off.

Estimates of the General Statistics Office show that the number of pigs in the country is down 5.8% over the same period in 2017. Deputy Director of the Livestock Department Nguyen Xuan Duong noted that the supply of pork is equal to the demand.  “Farmers should not withhold their pigs and wait for higher prices. Pigs from 90-110 kg can be sold at a profit. Holding on to them will only increase production cost,” he said.
