Volume of ice cream production in Ukraine grew 1.7% in January-May 2018


Ukraine produced 42.8 thousand tonnes of ice cream in January-May 2018, which is 1.7% more compared to the same period last year.

Ihor Bartkovsky, the president of the Ice Cream and Frozen Foods association of Ukrainian producers, said this at a press conference at Ukrinform news agency.

"In January-May [2018], the production of ice cream in Ukraine amounted to 42.8 thousand tonnes - an increase of 1.7%. Over the reporting period, 2.9 thousand tonnes were exported - an increase of 23.1%. Ice cream exports to the EU countries account for 8% of total exports, he said.

According to Bartkovsky, companies that are members of the association undergo voluntary quality control checks of their products in laboratories since 2016.

"All samples of ice cream tested this year meet the norms and requirements," he said.

In 2017, 96.8 thousand tonnes of ice cream were produced in Ukraine, which is 2.4% more than in 2016. Also, over 5 thousand tonnes were exported – an increase of 13.5%. Ukraine’s ice cream from is exported to 50 countries.
