Wheat harvest in Bulgaria lags far behind last year

The wheat and barley harvest started in Bulgaria on June 21-23. According to the country’s Ag Ministry, barley had been harvested from 101.3 Th ha (78% of the planned area) by July 06 that is 31.3% less than at the same time last year. Farmers got 490.79 KMT (down 25.7% from 2016) with an average yield of 4.84 MT/ha (up 8% year-on-year).

As of the above date, wheat had been harvested from 213.8 Th ha (19% of the planned area) that is down 50.6% year-on-year. The crop amounted to 1085.7 KMT (down 47.6% from 2016) with an average yield of 5.08 MT/ha (up 6.3% year-on-year).
