Y2018 harvest: Russia will sow less sunflower but more rape and soya

According to Russia’s Ag Ministry, plantings are expected to expand to 80.4 Ml ha this year (up 187 Th ha from 2017), Ag minister Tkachov told.

According to the Ag Ministry’s forecast, in view of the strategic importance of some crops for Russia, it is planned to increase soya acreage by 109 Th ha to 2.7 Ml ha and spring rape acreage by 183 Th ha to 1.05 Ml ha, reports UkrAgroConsult.

“The available oilseed crushing capacities – 24 MMT – are utilized just by 70%. To load them to the full extent, it is necessary to annually increase oilseed plantings by 700 Th ha till 2025,” Tkachov pointed out.

At the same time, sunflower plantings will be reduced to 7.5 Ml ha in 2018, Tkachov supposed. Thus, planted acreage will shrink by 336 Th ha against 2017.
