Belarus’ trade deficit down 43% in 2011

Belarus reduced its foreign trade deficit by 43.2% from $9.6 billion in 2010 to present $5.45 billion, BelTA learnt from the National Statistics Committee.

Just to compare: in January-November 2011 the country’s foreign trade deficit was down 42.2% from $8.3 billion in 2010 to $4.8 billion.

Last year’s foreign trade grew 43% from 2010, with exports up 59.4% to $40.3 billion and imports rising 31.1% to $45.7 billion.

The supplies to the CIS increased by 43% as against 2010 to reach $19.5 billion. Import from these countries went up by 36.8% to $28.1 billion. The trade turnover jumped 39.3% to a total of $47.6 billion. Belarus had a deficit of $8.6 billion in the trade with CIS countries, which was up 24.4% from 2010.

Belarus’ exports to the countries of the Customs Union went up by 37.4% to $14.3 billion. Imports from these countries expanded by 35.6% to $25.1 billion. Exports to Russia surged by 37.5% to a total of $13.7 billion. Import from that country increased by 37.8% to $24.9 billion. Export to Kazakhstan went up by 35.8% to $631.2 million, imports from that country rose by 33.8% to $137 million.

In 2011 Belarus’ export to the non-CIS countries surged by 78.5% from 2010 amounting to $20.8 billion. Imports from these countries increased by 23.1% to $17.7 billion. In 2011 Belarus’ foreign trade in general grew by 47.9% to a total of $38.45 billion. Belarus had a $3.13 billion surplus in the trade in goods with non-CIS countries while a year earlier Belarus had a deficit of $2.7 billion.
